Liberty State Park in Hudson County offers daily trips on the Miss Freedom toll ferry to the statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island. The statue of Liberty was given to America by France in 1884 in commemoration of the two countries' alliance during the American Revolution. Nearby Ellis Island was the main point of entry for immigrants into the United States in the first half of the 1900's.

It happened in Hudson county - The enmity between Alexander Hamilton and his longtime political enemy Aaron Burr, third vice-president of the United States, grew worse during the 1804 campaign for governor of New York. Finally, on July 11, 1804, at Weehawken, N.J., the two men fought a duel. Hamilton was shot and died the next day of his injuries.

West New York (founded in 1898), situated directly across the Hudson River from Midtown Manhattan, is a vital center of labor, manufacturing and transportation.
